Carolyn Zahnow has written a heart-wrenching story of grief, depression and death. "Beautiful Disasters - A Family's Journey through Teen Depression" follows her journey with her son, Cameron, after his birth dad's death until his untimely death at age 18. Published by Motivational Press and released June 2017.
In 2012, Carolyn released "Save the Teens: Preventing suicide, depression and addiction." The year following her son's death, she researched the topics surrounding his suicide and was determined to help other parents save their teens. "Save the Teens" is the result of her research. Included are some of Cameron's artwork and writings which his level of depression.
Carolyn has experience speaking to mental health organizations, parents at PTA meetings, college students, and more.Carolyn can speak to your group of her experiences with teen depression, substance abuse as well as suicide. She also shares her experience of starting a nonprofit to help those grieving a death.
"Beautiful Disasters - A Family's Journey Through Teen Depression" is Carolyn's follow up book to "Save the Teens." She shares what life was like with their son who first experienced the death of his birth dad. Following this, his life spiraled out of control resulting in his own death at age 18.
Cameron Stephenson wrote on the cover of a journal he kept "Beautiful Disasters" and he certainly fit that description. He was beautiful in more ways that one but his mental decline and death was disastrous for many.
